I was happy to be part of a clean up day in cooperation with other Koh Lanta dive professionals.
We manage to gather bags full of garbage from the bottom like bottles, boat spare parts, ropes and plastic products. It was especially satisfying to remove a huge net covering the reef and posing a threat to fish and turtles.
It's hard work, the reef is like a Welcro, holding the net firmly. And as soon as a freed part of the net touches corals again it sticks to it. Cooperation between divers is crucial, some lifting the net while others cuts it loose, trying to hurt the corals as little as possible.
